Winter Haven Hospital Foundation Uses Annual Campaign Funds to Support Physician and Nurse Continuing Education

The Winter Haven Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce Winter Haven Hospital and Bartow Regional Medical Center will offer its first Schwartz Center Rounds, a multidisciplinary forum where caregivers discuss difficult emotional and social issues that arise in the process of caring for patients. Over 37,000 clinicians across the country participate in these interactive discussions and share their experiences, thoughts and feelings on different topics.

In a typical Schwartz Center Rounds session, a panel of caregivers presents a patient case that caused important psychosocial issues for caregivers. Team members then share their own thoughts and feelings related to the day’s topic. Unlike Grand Rounds, these sessions are not about clinical problem-solving, but rather about exploring and processing the emotions that come up during patient care for hospital staff.

A Comprehensive study of Schwartz Center Rounds has shown them to help caregivers connect better with patients emotionally; enhance their understanding of the effect of illness on patients and their families; improve communication among caregivers and decrease feelings of caregiver isolation and stress.

Schwartz Center Rounds are available as a result of generous donations from team members and physicians during the Foundation’s annual Team Member and Medical Staff Campaign. Donations to the Team Member Campaign help the Foundation to support the Schwartz Rounds and other important programs for the community we serve.

“We thank the Foundation for their generous support”, said Haseeb Rahman, MD, BayCare Physician Advisor, who organized the Schwartz Rounds sessions. “We could not do this without the team members and physicians who support the Foundation’s annual campaign.”
